Sports and Entertainment

On the mountains everything can be sport, in winter and summer. Actually not much is needed, if you put a small effort, fun will be guaranteed.
We will do our best to keep you up to date on the events that will be held in the valley.

Summer

Trekking
Many trekking itineraries can be enjoyed, departing directly from the campsite or from nearby sites just a short drive away: from simple walks to more demanding itineraries and high mountain tours for more expert mountaineers. Additionally, you can follow the historical Via Francigena.

Nordic Walking
Basic and advanced Nordic Walking courses are available in Etroubles, on pre-set dates or upon  request. You may participate in post-course excursions organized by the instructors.

Trim trail
The fitness trail goes through a fresh pine wood at approximately 100 m away from the campsite.

Mountain Biking
The same itineraries suitable for trekking can also be used for mountain biking.

Tennis
There are some tennis courts in Etroubles at 200 m away from the campsite.

Fishing
The fishing reserve along the Artanavaz creek is at about 2 km from the campsite.

Soccer and five-a-side fooball
There is a five-a-side football field in Etrobules, just 200 m from the campsite. The closest soccer field, on the other hand, is located in Saint Oyen (about 2 Km).

Swimming
The nearest covered swimming pool is in Gignod (about 7 Km from the campsite). It was renovated in December 2008. In addition to swimming in the new 25 m pool, children can have fun in their own dedicated pool while you can relax with a hydro massage, a steam bath, a chromo therapy or massages.

Golf
There is a 9-hole course at the “Aosta Arsanières Golf Club” in Gignod (about 7 Km).

Climbing wall
Between Gran St. Bernard Valley and Valpelline there are a brand new climbing wall, which is also open in the winter, and a natural rock wall.

Rafting e Cayoning
The departure points for an exciting descent on the Dora River are easy to reach. Canyoning is a truly unforgettable experience suitable for the most audacious among you. The convenient position of the campsite allows you to make the excursion in one day.

We are located at the centre of an amphitheatre of magnificent mountains: Mont Vélan (3734m), Tête de Barasson (2963 m), Mont Chenaille (3144 m), Salliaousa (3322 m), Tête de Faudery (3299 m), Grande Moline (2722 m) and Mont Fallère (3090 m), which are the ideal landscape for trekking, climbing, mountain biking and horse riding. Our valley is perfect for whom would like to go out on easy paths or on long trips across the uncontaminated valleys, larches’ woods and creeks.

The most active ones or the simple hikers will have several options for planning their itinerary: from the more difficult “Tours”, such as “Tour du Grand Combin”, that in a few days of high altitude walk allows to circumnavigate around the highest peak of the area (4400 mamsl), to the fitness trim that begins 100 m away from the camping and passes through a thick wood along the creek reaching a picnic area.

The fun is guaranteed also by going by bike along the paths in the woods or at higher altitude to reach the Gran Saint Bernardo Pass.

It is possible to climb either on natural walls or in the fully equipped and brand new climbing gym in Ollomont, managed by the Valpelline’s guides.

If you are looking for something new you can give “Nordic Walking” a try: a peculiar walking technique that brings benefits to the whole body and can be performed by anybody; as a matter of fact it trains the cardio-circulatory system and almost all the muscular groups of the body at the same time. The courses will be held in Etroubles from June to August (event calendar).
Fishing can be performed in the reserve on the Artanavaz at approximately 2km away from the camping.
In the Etroubles’ sports area you’ll find tennis courts, football and bocce fields.

Several sports events take place in the village: the “TZARETOUN” (cart) competition where two people crews quickly fly along the slope’s curves on their handmade carts; the “MARTZE À PIÀ” walking competition, and several traditional tournaments such as the Fiolet one.

Every two years Etroubles hosts the “Bataille des Reines”. At the Ila Arena, the most combative among the spotted black and brown cows, divided into categories on the weight basis, confront by hitting horns in order to win the beautiful bells strictly destined to the queens and to conquer the 12 places for the final match of the region.
It is a perfect occasion for any tourist to admire the show beloved by the Aosta inhabitants and to enter in deep connection with their tradition.

Winter

Cross Country Skiing
The cross country skiing itinerary lies at about 100 meters from the campsite and winds through the pine woods until it reaches the Foyer de Fond, at about 2 Km away. The entire itinerary, which is about 18 Km long, offers various possibilities and different levels of difficulty. Contact with the Nature is assured.

Ski lift installation in Crevacol
The panoramic Crevacol ski slopes are just at 6 Km from the campsite. These slopes are in a perfect sunny position and are suitable for beginners, experts and even for those who are trying to get a tan.

Snow Park
There is an extremely complete playground on the snow, suitable for adults and children alike. You can find descents with rubber rafts and snow bikes, itineraries for ski, snowboard and sled and a giant blow-up slide.

Snowshoes
There are many paths suitable for excursions with snow shoes in the silence of nature. If you wish you can attend the many daytime or nighttime hikes organized by the nature guides of the region.

Alpine skiing
There are many opportunities for skiing excursions. The great number and variety of the itineraries, which vary between 800 and 1500 m of difference in height, offer the possibility to set the most suitable excursion for your own personal temperament, from December to May.
For lovers of “off slope” skiing, there is an itinerary of over 1300 m of difference in altitude, which ends not far from the campsite, starting from the arrival station of the ski lift on the Swiss slope (which can be reached by coach from Etroubles).

The alpine, Nordic and hiking skiing are among the most carried out activities during the winter time.
In the high Grand Saint Bernardo Valley the Crevacol district, that is at about 6km away from the campingsite, with two chair lifts and a baby skilift, gives access to 22km of tracks that span from 1640 and 2450 mamsl, that cover a total difference in heigh of 810m and are able to satisfy all the skiers needs, from the beginners to the expert, offering wide spaces, the ideal landscape for snowboard lovers that can have fun far from the big crowd.

Its favorable position, almost completely facing south, and therefore, very sunny, makes this place perfect for who would like to ski, but also for the ones who would like to sunbathe on the panoramic terraces of the restaurant areas situated on the tracks at 200 m of altitude.

The cross country skiing lovers will discover with great pleasure that the bottom of the valley is covered by a series of rings, one passing at 100 m from the campsite, perfectly shaped for both classic and skating cross country skiing, that run for a total length of 18km, between 1300 and 1500 mamsl. An equipped "Foyer de fond" in Flassin, with  waxing room, locker rooms, showers, ski and apparel renting service and bar-restaurant complete the offer of the facility. It is actually here that the Winter Triathlon Championship has been held.

Flassin offer also a funny alternative beside ski: the snow park. The snow park of Flassin, at about 2km from the campsite, stretches on a 35.000 sq m near the Foyer de Fond. In here is possible to enjoy different types of recreational activities for both adults and children.

There is also an area dedicated to younger kids, where they can slide on the snow with some soft stuffed animals, planes or cars. In the area it has been installed a giant inflatable slide, a climbing wall and a pogoda where mums can warm up and control their babies.

There are two tracks for the sleigh on natural track. The first one, of 935 m and with a iced bottom, is national championships homologated and it possible to use by being accompanied by a teacher. The second one, of 300 m, with snowy bottom, is inside of the snow park and it is used for beginner courses and it is accessible to anybody would like to feel the emotions of a safe ride on a sleigh.

There are several options for hiking skiing and each one give access to unforgettable experiences in the uncontaminated environment of the aloft mountains.
The great number and variety of the itineraries, which vary between 800 and 1500 m of difference in height, offer the possibility to set the most suitable excursion for your own personal temperament, from December to May.
For the lovers of “off slope” skiing, there is an itinerary of over 1300 m of difference in altitude, which ends not far from the campsite, starting from the arrival station of the ski lift on the Swiss slope (which can be reached by coach from Etroubles).
Many snowshoes itineraries have also been planned. Different tracks develop in the woods, such as the one of Plan Pessey that pass in front of the campsite, or the panoramic ones, such as the Menouve’s Valley that opens up to astonishing views. They can be done solo or, upon request, with a guide, even in the night, under the stars.
